Summary

VoiceAbroad is designed with privacy at its core. All speech recognition, translation, and text-to-speech processing happens entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your voice recordings or translations.

  • Translations - Your translated text stays on your device
  • Conversation history - We do not store or log your translations
  • Personal information - No account or sign-up required

Information We May Collect

Purchase Information When you purchase a language pack, the transaction is processed by Google Play. We receive confirmation of the purchase but do not have access to your payment details. Google Play's privacy policy governs this data.

Crash Reports & Analytics (Optional) If you opt in to help improve the app, we may collect:

  • Anonymous crash reports
  • Device type and OS version
  • App version
  • General usage patterns (e.g., which features are used most)

This data is anonymised and cannot be used to identify you personally.

On-Device Processing

VoiceAbroad uses the following technologies, all of which run locally on your device:

  • Speech Recognition: Whisper (on-device model)
  • Translation: ML Kit (on-device processing)
  • Text-to-Speech: Piper TTS (on-device model)

Your voice never leaves your device. This means:

  • You can use VoiceAbroad completely offline
  • Your conversations remain private
  • No internet connection is required for core functionality

Data Storage

All app data is stored locally on your device:

  • Settings & Preferences: Stored in app preferences
  • Downloaded Language Packs: Stored in app storage (can be deleted via the app)
  • Phrasebook: Pre-loaded phrases stored within the app

You can clear all app data at any time through your device's Settings > Apps > VoiceAbroad > Clear Data.

Third-Party Services

Google Play Services

Google ML Kit

  • Translation models are downloaded from Google servers
  • All translation processing happens on-device
  • No text is sent to Google servers
  • Subject to Google's ML Kit Terms

Children's Privacy

VoiceAbroad does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. The app does not require account creation or personal information to function.

Data Security

Since your data remains on your device, security is primarily managed by your device's built-in protections. We recommend:

  • Using a device passcode or biometric lock
  • Keeping your device's operating system updated

Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:

  • Access: All your data is stored locally on your device
  • Deletion: Clear app data through device settings or uninstall the app
  • Portability: Data remains on your device under your control
