Introducing TypeStars!

Something cool!

I was thinking a while ago about making a diary app for my kid. Not to replace what an actual physical diary would be for, it was more for practicing on a keyboard and recognising things like accurate typing and spelling. I was thinking about little rewards, like confetti effects or happy sound effects to appreciate good typing when I realised I should stop forming it around a diary and turn it more into an encouraging game-based system for typing and spelling exercises.

So I've made TypeStars!

Let's say you're a parent (maybe you already are) with a child aged somewhere around 5-8. You can create an account and add profile(s) for your kid(s). Each profile then can access a set of exercises around the keyboard that kids can complete. For example, "here's the letter F. Find it and type it!", or "type the letters A-B-C-D-E". As you complete exercises, you'll gain "stars". Earn enough stars and you can unlock the next level, with a new set of exercises in it. Level 2 has vowel-based exercises, and Level 3 goes into typing simple words. Along the way, their progress is recorded and displayed in a Parent Dashboard so you can see how they're getting on. There'll be some extra features in that Dashboard as well.

Another thing you can do with the stars is exchange them for stickers. Who doesn't love stickers? Stickers can be placed in a little built-in sticker book, so there's incentive to collect them all beyond completing all the challenges.

Also urging you on is a mascot that you can pick when you set up the child profile. These are friendly animals with encouraging messages who are always happy to see you.

And then there's the shameless paywall. Sorry.

But please try it out at https://www.typestars.co.uk. Put a lot of work and detail into this one and I'd love for it to get somewhere!
